تم إنشاء "مكتبة بابل" على يد جوناثان باسيل، مستلهمة من قصة قصيرة نُشرت عام 1941 للكاتب خورخي لويس بورخيس، تناولت مفهوم اللانهاية. في قصة بورخيس، تضم المكتبة كل احتمال ممكن لتركيب الحروف، ما يعني أنها تحتوي على كل كتاب كُتب في الماضي، وكل ما يمكن أن يُكتب في المستقبل.
باسيل، طالب الفلسفة الذي أصبح مبرمجًا، حول هذه الفكرة المتخيلة إلى واقع رقمي من خلال إنشاء موقع إلكتروني يُولّد كل صفحة ممكنة باستخدام جميع التركيبات المحتملة من الحروف والمسافات وعلامات الترقيم.
والنتيجة: أرشيف هائل قابل للبحث، يحتوي – نظريًا – على كل شيء: من علاج السرطان، إلى الكلمات التي كتبناها هنا اليوم. قصص حياتنا، وقصة وفاتنا، بل حتى البركة التي نهديها لكم ولعائلتكم — كل ذلك كان موجودًا مسبقًا.
تم إطلاق الموقع قبل تسع سنوات، ما يعني أن هذه البركة كانت موجودة هناك، بصمت، تنتظر أن يلحق المستقبل بالحاضر، ليصبح ماضيًا.

The Library of Babel was created by Jonathan Basile, inspired by a 1941 short story about infinity by Jorge Luis Borges. In Borges' tale, the library contains every possible combination of letters, meaning it holds all books ever written—and all that could ever be written.
Basile, a philosophy student turned coder, brought this fiction to life by building a website that generates every possible page of text using all combinations of letters, spaces, and punctuation.
The result is a vast, searchable archive that, in theory, already contains everything—from the cure for cancer to the very words we've written here today. The stories of our lives, the story of our deaths, and even the blessing we offer to you and your family—all of it already existed.
The site was launched nine years ago, which means this blessing was already sitting there, quietly waiting for the future to catch up to the present and become the past.
Perhaps it's destiny. Perhaps it's nonsense. Perhaps it's infinity and philosophy tucked into a simple website.
But whatever it is, the blessing now lives there—and has lived there—long before we ever met.
